About SaleOnTheTrail
We built this because we were tired of "deals" that weren't deals. We use data, not hype.
How SaleOnTheTrail Works
- We track hiking gear prices across vetted merchants.
- We score deals based on price history, total cost, and reliability.
- We earn affiliate commissions when users click through to retailers.
How The "DealScore" Works
Every offer we find is processed through our scoring algorithm (0-100). We only show you items that pass a strict value threshold.
| Weight | Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 40% | Discount Depth | Percentage off the 90-day median price (not the fake MSRP). |
| 20% | Total Cost | Includes shipping. Fake "low prices" with $20 shipping get penalized. |
| 15% | Merchant Trust | We prioritize retailers with easy returns and real stock. |
| 15% | Stock Status | If only size "XXS" is in stock, the score drops. |
| 10% | Spec Relevance | We boost items that actually fit the category (e.g. lightweight tents for backpacking). |
Our Audience & Traffic
SaleOnTheTrail focuses on organic search and repeat visitors through price-drop alerts and category-based deal pages. The site is built for high-intent users actively shopping for hiking gear.
Affiliate Disclosure
Transparency is key.
SaleOnTheTrail participates in various affiliate marketing programs, which means we may get paid commissions on editorially chosen products purchased through our links to retailer sites.
However, our DealScore algorithm is automated and does not know or care which link is an affiliate link. A bad deal is a bad deal, and we won't show it.
